The company was established in 1994 and its site connected online as Amazon.com in the year 1995 and was renamed after the great Amazon River in South America. They settled on the name "Amazon" as it was a place that was "exotic, striking and different" and it was one of the largest rivers in the world, as they hoped this company would be. The company later updated and diversified its products, selling DVDs, CDs, MP3 downloads, format, computer software, video games, electronics, apparel, furniture, food, toys & games, baby products, apparel, sporting goods, gourmet food, jewelry, watches, health and personal-care items, beauty products, musical instruments, clothing, industrial & scientific supplies, and groceries. Amazon.com also offered consumer electronics�particularly, the Amazon Kindle electronic-book reader and the Kindle Fire tablet computer�and is now the primary provider of cloud computing services. Amazon.com sold to all 50 states and over 45 countries and has some independent retail websites available for the following countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Japan, and China. Today, Amazon.com embodies the emerging culture of business strategy, and is gradually becoming a physical showroom for online retailers.
